Farewell Magic Bus

Bus 142, AKA the Magic Bus, has been removed from the Alaskan wilderness. For 50 years, hunters and hikers used the bus as a shelter.

Jon Krakauer launched the bus to fame in 1993 with the Outside Magazine article Death of an Innocent (30 minute read) about a 24 year old who died in the bus. Krakauer later wrote the book Into the Wild* about the man, Chris McCandless.

Alaskan authorities decided to remove the bus after a large number of rescues were required due to unqualified individuals attempting the see the bus. The territory around the bus is quite dangerous. Two people have died trying to reach the bus. Read it - 3 minutes
